Inter/Intra District Transfer Process

While parents and students generally desire to attend the school in their area of residence, the California Ed. Code and policies of the RCSD's Board of Education do allow options for students wanting to attend a school outside their established attendance area.  Based on the provisions of the law and the applicable Board policies.  Below you will find the letters in Spanish and English for Inter/Intra District transfers for the 2015-2016 school year.  Applications are available at the district office or Cooley.  Open enrollment applications will be accepted from January 20, 2015 through Feburary 20, 2015.  A separate and final application window is available from March 2, 2015 through March 13, 2015.  Applications during the last period will be given a number as they are received at the district office and will be addressed in the order they are received.

ATS Exam

The Academic Talent Search (ATS) Qualifying Exam will be offered at the Roseville City School District on either Monday February 23rd or March 2nd @ 3:00 p.m.. Students who take this test automatically qualify for the ATS Summer Program at Sacramento State.  There is no obligation to apply; taking the test simply gives students the opportunity to attend unique, fun, and interactive courses.

ATS is a non-profit program that offers 4th-8th grade students (grade level as of Jan. 1, 2015) exciting classes designed to accelerate learning in subject areas they enjoy.  Current 6th-8th graders can challenge themselves in traditional and non-traditional subjects, and gain self-confidence and independence while experiencing a collegiate environment.

The first step toward participating in ATS is to take the Qualifying Exam.  No test preparation is required since there is no pass or fail!  For more information, please check with your school office for sign up information or contact Katie Haupt at khaupt@rcsdk8.org.  Additional program details, including a brief video, financial aid information (over $45,000 in financial support was granted in 2014), and sample test questions, can be found on the ATS website at www.csus.edu/coe/ats.

Cooley Tumblers are also available in the office for $10.

LUNCH!   Lunch at Cooley Middle School is from 12:07 to 12:40 p.m.  (Period four begins at 12:44 p.m.).  (On Monday, lunch is from 11:55 to 12:28 p.m.).  All students may bring healthy snacks and drinks for passing periods.  Energy drinks (such as Monster, Red Bull, etc) are discouraged.  We encourage parents to volunteer at lunch any day you can!

School Supplies:  The following items are suggested school supplies for this year:  Sturdy backpack, 2” binder, binder paper, pens, pencils (No. 2), highlighters, glue sticks, and a ruler.  Individual instructors may suggest additional materials.

The Cooley Student Handbook:  This important publication is included In the Cooley Planner.  “The Handbook Test” will be given to every student the first week of school, and this test is to be completed – Open Handbook! – and returned to Second Period.  We encourage students and parents to complete the test together.  Other activities are planned to help students understand school expectations as well.  A PDF version of the Handbook it below.

Just Read!  Many times each week, parents ask, “What can I do to help my son/daughter do better in school?”  There is no greater support that you can give your child, besides love, of course, than encouraging them to read, read, read.  Reading just 20 minutes each night will greatly increase your student’s abilities in academic classes throughout the year.

Cooley Parent Teacher Club!  Information about joining this amazing support for your student and for the school will be available at Check-In Day.  Please support our Parent Teacher Club!  This organization makes our school the best school every day!  Check out the PTC website at http://www.cooleyptc.com.
