VENCIL BROWN ELEMENTARY'S
ACCELERATED READER (AR) PROGRAM

Beginning the 2008/09 school year, Vencil Brown Elementary has updated the Accelerated/STAR reading enrichment program to Accelerated Reader Enterprise.

Accelerated Reader Enterprise is an internet-based computerized reading management system that provides daily, ongoing information about each student's reading. While motivational, Accelerated Reader points also provide a precise measurement of student reading practice. Books in the library are marked with a leveled sticker. A student chooses a book, reads the book, and is then ready to take the AR test. Computers in each classroom, the lab and four computers in the Library are available for AR testing. A child earns either full points for 100% or a percentage of points (60%--90% depending on the test score). The program keeps track of the students' reading records, and this information is immediately available to students, teachers and parents.
