Aside from the kind of heat that makes me retreat to the air-conditioned indoors, I love July. We are solidly in the middle of summer break, and this midway point of the season usually finds me relaxed and ready to tackle large projects, but I miss our bustling school communities. One program that does keep several of our sites busy throughout the summer is our free summer meals program. With no questions asked and no registration needed, this program feeds anyone 18 years and under with free breakfasts and lunches at select campuses in the area. This year’s program will run through July 30, 2021, and I encourage you to spread the news – our goal is to leave no Roseville child hungry.

Like me, I sometimes find students and families who start to miss the hustle and bustle of education during the summer months. For the families that would like to continue with a learning plan for students this summer, RCSD offers a sample schedule with learning resources and enrichment ideas that can be done online or without a computer. A common question I’ve been getting from families throughout the summer has been, “What does school look like next year?” I’m thrilled to report that the 2021-22 school year will begin with a full reopening Thursday, August 5, 2021. While new changes to the current CDPH guidance are expected to be released during the summer, we will communicate pertinent updates to our families as soon as we get them. 

The upcoming school year will also utilize one-time state and federal funding to improve services for our students in the areas of academic support, behavioral support, and social-emotional support. We know that things don’t just go “back to normal” overnight, so RCSD is committed to providing additional support for families and students as we all transition back to a traditional schedule.

The countdown to returning our students is on and I look forward to catching up with our students, staff, and families in August. Until then, I hope you continue to find opportunities to unplug, recharge, make memories, and stay cool out there!
