The Roseville City School District (RCSD) serves more than 10,000 transitional kindergarten through eighth grade students in 18 unique schools. Offering specialized programs, such as International Baccalaureate (IB), GATE, AVID, Career Technical Education (CTE) courses, art and music education, the District focuses on maximizing student achievement while exceeding parents' expectations. Several campuses within the District have earned prestigious awards, such as California Distinguished School and National Blue Ribbon School. Learn more about us here
We're making significant investments in our children by continually investing in our people, programs and infrastructure.

These district-wide improvements are aligned with our Board of Education's goals and parent recommendations from the Local Control and Accountability Plan (LCAP) survey. Thank you to parents, caretakers, and the community for being our partners in education! See our State of the District graphic

Orchard Ranch Becomes Our
19th School

The Roseville City School District Board of Education voted unanimously to name its newest school Orchard Ranch Elementary, honoring local families who brought an abundance of farming and agriculture to the community, which is deeply rooted in the city’s history.

The school will open in the fall of 2017 and can accommodate 600 students at full capacity. Orchard Ranch Elementary is located west of Westbrook Boulevard and north of Pleasant Grove Boulevard at 4375 Brookstone Drive and will open in the fall of 2017.

Students currently living in the boundaries of the new school who wish to remain at either Fiddyment or Junction will be required to complete an intra-district transfer request. The intra-district transfer request forms are available on the district website at
www.rcsdk8.org. We will accept those intra-district transfer requests from December 1 through December 21. If you have questions about which school your student(s) is scheduled to attend, please visit our website at www.rcsdk8.org.
Substitutes Needed!

Do you know someone who is interested in becoming a substitute, or perhaps it's YOU?! The District is currently accepting applications for teachers and instructional assistants along with food services and clerical positions. Please visit our webpage for more information. Lois Nakamoto is available to answer questions and can be reached at  Lnakamoto@rcsdk8.org or

Measure D Update
Citizen's Oversight Committee Members Needed!

The Roseville Joint Union High School District passed a bond in November which will provide funding to build Phase 1 of a 6th comprehensive high school in our western boundary. The bond will also fund renovation and repair projects at the existing campuses within the high school district. In compliance with Proposition 39, an Independent Citizens’ Oversight Committee is required to review Measure D bond proceeds expended for facilities projects. The Roseville Joint Union High School District is seeking prospective committee members. The deadline to apply is January 10, 2017. Forms can be found here.
Music to Our Ears!

Allow us to introduce you to Ms. Stephanie Tomicich, one of seven new music teachers hired to launch our district-wide music program. Our new music program has been made possible through funding from our education Foundation and District. In addition to a generous donation from RCSDF, our Board of Education has made a $600,000 yearly commitment to fund the music program.

Tell us about yourself!

I am a vocalist, and I've been in choirs since elementary school. When I was growing up, I also took piano and violin lessons. I went to Sac State where I earned my bachelor's degree and teaching credential. I studied two philosophies: Education through Music and Orff Schulwerk, and am also the head of the Orff Schulwerk Sacramento Chapter.
Hobbies:
I love to run and kickbox. I'm in a running group called Mothers Run This Town. I am very close with my sister and mom.
How I became involved in music:
My family always sang with me, and there was music in school which kept my interest going. My high school music teacher, Mrs. Sullivan at Bella Vista High, inspired me to major in music.
Music background:
I love to sing, and I also enjoy playing the piano, violin and guitar. String instruments are my favorite!
My favorite part about being a RCSD teacher is...
I love the camaraderie in this district. Teachers, staff, and administration are all super supportive and friendly. With the music teachers as well, I feel that we plan well together and are each able to bring something to the table based on our backgrounds. Of course, the kids are the best part! I enjoy teaching K-5 and seeing the great potential to watch them grow throughout the years!

Foundation News!

The Roseville City School District Foundation (RCSDF) is singing a new tune---have you heard it? Music is now in every school and every grade, thanks to a $90,000 contribution from our Foundation to the District, with another $25,000 committed every year after.

This has allowed our district to hire seven new music teachers, and we’re now in the process of buying instruments and supplies for our music teachers and classrooms. These funds will help take the initial program to the next level, and we can't do it without you!

This October, our #Roseville Rocks crowd-sourcing campaign raised nearly $12,000 toward our goal. A big thanks to all who contributed, including
The Music Yard of Rocklin and The Strum Shop of Roseville for their generous contributions.

Updates from the “Kitchen!”

Parents, take a break from packing a lunch for your kiddo with confidence! Our Food Services Department is making significant updates to its menus, nutrition education programs, equipment, and lunchrooms, thanks in part to the LifeTime grant we received last year.

We are working to have our menus free of the 7 ingredients of concern outlined by LifeTime. Parent favorites include hormone-free and antibiotic-free chicken drumsticks and beef tacos! Give it a try!

Elementary school lunches are the best deal in town at $3, and remember the EZSchoolPay app, which is an easy, secure, and convenient way to pay for meals.

Superintendent’s Corner

It’s already the middle of December, which signals a couple things for me. It’s the time of year when my sons start formulating and strategizing their wish list for Santa. It’s also a time when I reflect on the year and the many blessings we have.

This year, what I am most thankful for isn’t “things” but rather people. I am thankful for my supportive and healthy family. I am impressed every day by my colleagues and have deep gratitude for their service to our students. Every day, our teachers and support staff arrive prepared to face the many rewards and opportunities that come with being a part of a child’s life.

I am in awe of our students and their determination to grow and learn through experience. I am thankful for our parents who serve as an extension of our teaching team. I am grateful to be a part of a community that values public service and a willingness to see value derived from partnerships.

Enjoy the holidays with your families, and I will look forward to our continued progress in 2017!

Sincerely,
Derk
