Nutrition Department Update

The 2018 free summer meal program launches Monday, June 11, 2018! This United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) funded program allows RCSD to feed anyone 18 years of age and under. This year, the USDA plans to serve more than 200 million free meals to children, helping to alleviate childhood hunger in our country. Just because school isn't in session does not mean that a child should go without a proper meal. Monday through Friday, from June 11 to July 27, children can receive free lunches (and some breakfasts!) at select campuses in our area without the need for registration. To learn more, call 916-771-1675, ext. 50248.

As always, we take great care in selecting and preparing our meals for children and students, so expect to see trays full of a variety of grains, fruits, vegetables, protein, and low-fat dairy. In addition, we work closely with The Life Time Foundation, and many of our menu items meet their specific nutritional requirements. Learn more about our nutrition program here.

We hope to see you in the cafeteria this summer!

Our District Has a New Logo!

We are pleased to announce the launch of two new Roseville City School District logos, as part of the ongoing evolution of our District’s brand.

Our District has grown and evolved over the years, and we felt it was time our logo did, too. We believe the new look identifies better with the circular design utilized by our schools, creating a consistent brand for our District. And we’re excited the community, students, and staff agreed with nearly three times the amount of votes as the next nearest logo option.

Our design goal was simple: we wanted to find something that was clean, modern, elegant, balanced, and connected. We hope you like our new look! In the upcoming months, you’ll see the new logo throughout our District, on our new website, social media, and printed materials.

Principal Spotlight
Susan Fridly

Junction Elementary School

I began in education... in 2004 at El Camino High School in Sacramento. I moved to Roseville City School District in 2005, where I was a resource specialist for 10 years before becoming an administrator.

What led me to become an educator... I have always loved working with children. I had a professor in college who encouraged me to volunteer in a special education class at an elementary school near the campus. I so enjoyed working in that classroom, and that teacher became a wonderful mentor for me. That experience led me to pursue my teaching credential in special education.

My favorite Junction tradition is... Leadership Day in the spring where students showcase what they have learned throughout the year and how they are achieving their personal goals. Part of Junction's mission is to develop leadership qualities in each student, so they can be leaders in their own lives and in their community.

I attended college... at Point Loma Nazarene University in San Diego for my bachelor's degree, and then came back home to finish my teaching credential and master's degree at Sac State.

My hobbies... Right now, my days are filled with our first child, Madelyn, who was born in March. I love to read, cook, and take walks with my dog. As often as we can, my husband and I love to take trips to the beach.

Keep up with Mrs. Fridly and the Junction Jaguars on Facebook!

This year's Run4Roseville Schools was a smashing success! With over 800 registrants, this was one of our best attended races yet. From our most wee contestants to our big kids and parents, there was something for everyone.

Congratulations to Principal's Dash Winner Jessica Brooks, who is serving as principal at Junction Elementary while Principal Fridly is on maternity leave. This race was quite competitive, and each principal gave their best effort. We love seeing our administrators get involved!

RCSD is only as strong as the people who work with our children and families. Thank you to these extra special retirees for inspiring all of us. We are thankful for your years of service.
 Superintendent's Corner

We find ourselves here again; wrapping up another school year as the heat rolls in. I can sense the boundless energy in my house as my sons count down the days of the school year and plan their summer hijinks. The 2017-2018 school year has been quite a ride for our District. We began the first day of school with the grand opening of our newest campus, Orchard Ranch. I am in awe that we have nearly reached capacity at OR, growing by a couple hundred students during the school year. Orchard Ranch is becoming what our other 18 schools are: a close-knit community of parents, students, and staff.

We’ve also witnessed incredible improvements at other campuses such as the groundbreaking of new STEAM classrooms at Stoneridge Elementary. Construction will be completed this summer, just in time for the upcoming school year. While our current campuses are flourishing, I am proud to announce that we have begun planning for our next RCSD elementary school campus in the West Park community. We estimate the new school to be open in 2021 or 2022.

The Roseville City School District Foundation (RCSDF) has also been hard at work throughout the school year, hosting successful annual events such as the Comfort Food Cook-Off and the Run4Roseville Schools fundraiser. With their support, RCSD benefits from their yearly donation that helps support all of our students in enriching their education through funding music programs, promoting academic excellence, championing innovation in teaching and providing sustained financial support to the entire District.

While the school year may be nearing an end, that doesn’t mean all of our campuses will be closed. In fact, we will be serving free meals to all children under the age of 18 at several of our campuses beginning June 11, 2018. Monday through Friday, children can be served a free, and healthy meal at Antelope Christian Academy, Barrett Ranch, Cirby, Crestmont, Kaseberg, RPAL, and Woodbridge. Some campuses even serve breakfast while others have a lunchtime, start date and days of the week that vary. For more information about dates, times and locations, please call 916.771.1675 ext. 50248.

I would like to thank all of our parents, guardians, and volunteers who take the time to support our students. You are truly our partner in education. I will miss all of our students and families this summer and I’m looking forward to seeing how much we have all grown. Here’s to a safe, healthy and happy summer 2018!
