The Free Meal Program Continues!

RCSD's annual free Summer Meals Program launches Monday, June 7, 2021, and will run through July 30, 2021. Anyone 18 years and under can receive free breakfasts and lunches at select campuses in the area without the need for registration.

Locations include Antelope Crossing, Barrett Ranch Elementary School, Buljan Middle School, Eich Middle School, Silverado Middle School, and Woodbridge Elementary School.

RCSD’s free Summer Meals Program served 61,039 breakfasts and 84,412 lunches to children in our community in 2020, an increase of more than eight times from the prior year. The Summer Meals Program is made possible through funding from the United States Department of Agriculture. In 2020, the USDA planned to serve more than 200 million free meals to children, helping to alleviate childhood hunger in our country.
Congratulations, Retirees!

RCSD is giving thanks to the following retirees for their years of service to our students. Congratulations on your next chapter of life. We will miss you!
Maintenance and Facilities Update

While our students are out for the summer, our site projects, upgrades, and improvements are just beginning! To begin, Junction Elementary is being painted, will enjoy some asphalt repairs and conversion of a computer lab into a brand new classroom. Spanger Elementary's Multi-Purpose Room (MPR) will receive a roof replacement, and our gardening team are drafting their own project list for the summer, so prepare to see some fresh greenery around our schools.

But, wait - there's more! Check out the below project list and see how your school site will be gussied up over the summer:

Updates from RCSD Foundation

During this school year, the Roseville City School District Foundation (RCSD Foundation) met the needs of our students through the purchase of WiFi Hotspots to support distance learning. We continued to fund our Partners In Education (PIE) Grants, which provided nearly $15,000 to classroom teachers to support special projects and innovative academic and enrichment programs.

The RCSD Foundation is excited about the 2021-22 school year! We plan to revamp our signature events, and we’ll brainstorm additional fundraising opportunities and events. In addition, we will align our giving strategy with the needs of RCSD families to provide the highest level of value and enrichment for our students and teachers while preserving the integrity of the mission of the RCSD Foundation.

How can you help? First, GET INVOLVED! Visit us at rcsdfoundation.org, join our email list, and share our social posts, event information, and updates. Consider becoming an ambassador of our organization! We are grateful to our supporters, donors, and sponsors! Enjoy your summer and we’ll see ya next (school) year!

Superintendent's Corner

As we approach the Summer of 2021, we are all entering the season with a much brighter outlook. For my family, our priority over the next two months will be focusing on the things that truly matter in life -- the “things” that give us gratitude, peace, and occasion to make memories.

My hope for all RCSD staff, families, and students is that we take this time to unplug. The need to recharge (and no, I don’t mean our laptops and phones!) has grown, and this summer is shaping up to be an opportunity to do just that. I will be spending time investing in my relationships and family, hugging and spending time with those I’ve deeply missed. I will also be prioritizing my health and wellness, inside and out. We hear a lot about self-care, and there’s a reason for that - it’s vital, and it makes a difference. Talk with your family and children about what self-care means to them and ways they best recharge. Their unique answers may surprise you!

Another aspect of summer that gives me gratitude is RCSD’s annual free summer meals program. Having food on the table is something many of us take for granted, but that’s not the case in every family. The free summer meals program helps to ensure all children 18 years and under receive a nutritious meal they can count on. In 2019, our summer meals program provided 18,102 meals, but last year in the thick of the COVID-19 pandemic, we served 145,451 meals as the need to put food on children’s tables grew exponentially. I am thankful for this program and our ability to keep our community’s children fed and healthy.

This year’s program, sponsored by the United States Department of Agriculture, runs Monday, June 7, 2021, through July 30, 2021, at six schools throughout Roseville. The best part is there is no registration required! Participating locations include Antelope Crossing, Barrett Ranch Elementary School, Buljan Middle School, Eich Middle School, Silverado Middle School, and Woodbridge Elementary School.

Enjoy the long summer days full of sunshine and a renewed focus on self and wellness. I know that’s what I will be striving to do!

Sincerely,

Derk Garcia
Superintendent
