Crestmont Elementary Awarded High Honor

Crestmont Elementary School has been named a California Distinguished School, an esteemed honor presented to just three elementary schools in Placer County in 2020.

The 2020 California Distinguished Schools program recognizes work in closing the achievement gap, demonstrating outstanding student performance and exemplary achievements in academic programs and practices.

“These outstanding schools don’t just educate students; they also provide the young people of California the tools they need to be successful after graduation,” said State Superintendent of Public Instruction Tony Thurmond.

Crestmont’s culture of excellent teaching, learning, and collaboration, coupled with real-time conflict resolution and positive behavior intervention attributed to earning this recognition.

“This award affirms the determination of our students and educators. They are the cornerstone of who we are and why we do what we do,” said Crestmont principal Jeri Farmer. “Our entire Crestmont community is honored to be recognized and this award belongs to them!"

Congrats, Coyotes!

Welcome, Westbrook Elementary School!

We know you've heard - our community of schools is growing! Help us welcome our newest school planned for 2022, Westbrook Elementary. During the November 2019 board of education meeting, Westbrook Elementary School was selected as the name for WB-60, RCSD's 21st school which is currently in the planning phase. This school is a unique design focused on the outdoor/indoor learning environment and will be joining fellow newcomer Riego Creek in West Roseville.
Riego Creek Elementary School Updates

The Roseville City School District has named Manny Villalpando as principal of the District’s 20th school, Riego Creek Elementary, located near Pruett Drive and Crawford Parkway off Fiddyment Road in Roseville.

Manny began his career in education in 2001 and became the principal of Ferris Spanger Elementary School in 2017. “Mr. Villalpando brings a passion and genuine care to his leadership role and it’s those characteristics we value in our District culture,” said Superintendent Derk Garcia. “Manny’s ability to cultivate positive relationships with parents, community members, and staff is an integral piece to our preparation for Riego Creek’s opening.”

Construction for Riego Creek was planned for 2022, but due to increased demand, and an agreement with Westpark and Fiddyment Farm developers, the timeline has been expedited so the school can open for the 2020 - 2021 school year and can accommodate up to 625 students.

Riego Creek is approximately 25% complete and the majority of the underground work is already complete. This school is a new design with a focus on an outdoor/indoor learning environment. The next steps include selecting Riego Creek’s branding, such as mascot, school colors, and logo, as well as the selection of staff.

Superintendent's Corner

New Year's resolutions prepare us to improve ourselves for the coming year and this January is extra special, marking the beginning of a fresh decade.

As I reflect on the Roseville City School District’s last 10 years, there has been an undeniable transformation among our community of schools. Since 2010, we’ve added three new schools, broken ground on our 20th school and added an International Baccalaureate (IB) program, Spanish at all four middle schools and a district-wide music education program, while watching our city grow and our students grow up. One thing that hasn’t changed in 150 years is our District culture of committing to keeping students at the center of every decision that we make.

As we move into the new decade, the next 10 years have big plans in store. In August 2020, we will open Riego Creek Elementary and Manny Villalpando will serve as our principal. Three more schools are on the horizon in the coming years along with another IB accreditation, updates in technology, and recruitment of the very best educators for our students.

The District is really about our people, like ABC10 Teacher of the Month Ann Janzen of Sargeant. Teachers like Ms. Janzen leave a mark on our District and are the reason for our 150-year track record of excellence in education. It is because of these educators that our District can offer unmatched educational programs, attention to each child’s socio-emotional needs and opportunities for children to learn outside of the traditional box.

The educators we seek for our District must embody our 4 "C" philosophy. They must demonstrate Character, Commitment, Caring, and Competence. Our District puts considerable thought into our recruitment and selection process to ensure we find that needle-in-a-haystack. Wednesday, January 15, 2020, begins our annual search for these #RCSDChampions during our Recruitment Fair at 1050 Main Street in Roseville. We encourage educators to attend with resumes and prepare to meet staff from each school site.

I wish for you a 2020 that is filled with excellent health, joyful moments, and a feeling of personal fulfillment.
