Emerging Educator Placement
Student Teachers, Interns, Practicum Students, and Fieldworkers

RCSD offers student/mentor placement for pre-service educators (student teachers, interns, practicum students, and fieldworkers), in partnership with our university affiliates. We welcome future educators, mentors, and placement coordinators to use the information on this page to learn more about RCSD’s procedures, onboarding requirements, and placement resources.

Start Your Journey Here (Student Placement Agreement)

This agreement ensures that all student placements (student teachers, interns, practicum students, and fieldworkers) are managed fairly and remain compliant with District policy. You must review and acknowledge these requirements before submitting a Student Placement Request Form or starting any activity.

Centralized Placement

All placement inquiries must be coordinated directly through the District Office. Please do not contact individual school sites or mentors. Site-based or individual arrangements are not permitted for the following reasons:

  • Compliance: The District must verify and retain records for fingerprinting, TB, and training.
  • Legal: Every placement must have a formal MOU that is approved by the Board.
  • Equity & Capacity: Centralized placement helps us fairly distribute opportunities, avoid repeat mentor assignments, and maintain a balanced capacity.

Placement Policy

  • No Guarantees: Specific mentor or school site requests cannot be guaranteed. Assignments are made on a first-come, first-served basis using the next available mentor on the volunteer list who meets placement requirements.
  • Personal Circumstances: Decisions cannot be based on personal factors like childcare, transportation, or proximity to home. Once confirmed, placements are final unless deemed unviable by the District.

Clearance Requirements

To ensure the safety of all students and staff, the following clearances are mandatory for all placements. Before beginning any site activities, you must provide:

  • Fingerprinting: Completed via the District form at an approved facility (at the candidate’s expense).
  • TB Test: Proof of current clearance.
  • Mandated Reporter Training: Completion certificate for the “Mandatory Reporting of Child Abuse & Neglect” course.

Clearance documentation must be verified by the District before any participation in classroom or site activities. Students who have not received clearance are not eligible to begin their placement.

Student Acknowledgment

By submitting a Student Placement Request Form, you acknowledge that:

  • All placements must be approved by the District Personnel Department
  • You cannot start any activities until you receive formal clearance.
  • Site-specific or mentor-specific requests are not permitted.
  • Failure to meet these requirements may result in placement cancellation.

Your Roadmap (Student/Mentor Placement)

Phase 1: Placement Preparation

  1. Mentor Submits Interest: Mentors may submit their interest at any time through Droplet. Placement policies are available for review within the interest form.
  2. Supervisor Reviews Mentor Interest: The interest form is routed to the Mentor’s Supervisor for approval.
  3. Student/University Submits a Placement Request: Placements are coordinated at the district level. The Student or university Placement Coordinator submits a placement request through Google Form.

Contract Requirement: The District will work with the University to establish a contract before a placement can be coordinated. Contract processing time is 4-6 weeks.

Phase 2: Placement Coordination

  1. District Identifies Eligible Mentor: Mentors are reviewed in order of submission date. The first Mentor who meets the program requirements is contacted.
  2. District Student Placement Offer to Mentor: The District sends a placement offer through Droplet for the mentor to review.
  3. Mentor Reviews Student Placement Offer: The Mentor evaluates the placement details and program requirements to determine fit, then approves or declines the request.
  4. Supervisor Reviews Student Placement Offer: If accepted, the Mentor routes the form to their Supervisor to review the placement details and program requirements to determine fit.

Phase 3: Placement Onboarding

  1. District Confirms Placement and Initiates Onboarding: A confirmation email titled “Student Placement Processing and Required Actions” is sent to the student and all involved parties.
  2. Student Submits Onboarding Requirements: The student completes Fingerprints, TB clearance and Mandated Reporter Training.
  3. District Student Cleared to Begin: Once onboarding is complete, a clearance email is sent to the student and all involved parties. Students may not begin their placement until the clearance email is issued.

Onboarding Requirements

The following onboarding items are required before you start. Please complete and submit all items one to two weeks prior to your proposed start date:

  1. Fingerprinting: Use this pre-filled Livescan form at any fingerprinting facility. If “Intern” is unavailable, use “Volunteer.” You are responsible for the cost.
  2. Submit your Tuberculosis (TB) Clearance: Use this TB Clearance form to upload the completed document.
  3. Complete your Online Training: Complete the “Mandatory Reporting of Child Abuse & Neglect” training. If you’ve completed this in another district this year, please email the certificate to ablake@rcsdk8.org.
Start by setting up your Public School Works account. As a non-employee, you’ll need to reset your password the first time logging in to access your course list. Enter the email address you use to communicate with the School District.

District Email

We recognize the importance of a valid email address for student teachers, which is typically given in the format of firstnamelastname.stuteacher@rcsdk8.org.

Mentors will need to submit a ticket to the Technology Department to request an email for their student teacher.
