Parent Volunteer Opportunities
As educators, we support teaching and learning as a team effort in preparing our children for the future. Parent involvement is a critical component of student academic achievement and school improvement. Our goal is to establish a partnership between the home and school to support learning for all students in the public school community. Decades of research from the National Parent Teacher Association show when parents are involved students have:
- Higher Grades, Test Scores, And Graduation Rates
- Better School Attendance
- Increased Motivation, Better Self-Esteem
- Lower Rates Of Suspension
- Decreased Use Of Drugs And Alcohol
- Fewer Instances Of Violent Behavior
Our school cannot stay as great as it is without the continued support of involved parents and community members.
Parent Teacher Club
Mission of the PTC:
The Mission of the PTC is to improve the overall educational experience of students at Vencil Brown School through a combination of fundraising, volunteer efforts and collaboration among parents, teachers, administrators, students, as well as individuals and businesses in the community.
Membership:
Parents, guardians, teachers, family or businesses interested in serving the needs of the school may become active members by paying an annual membership fee of $20.00 per family. All money spent through the Vencil Brown Elementary School PTC are tax deductible.
Fundraisers:
The PTC organizes the fundraisers throughout the school year so we may fund the programs and technology needs the District or State does not provide for us. We have a fundraiser and membership drive beginning early fall, which will begin to provide for our year’s budget. Some of the other fundraisers we have done in the past included: carnivals, jog-a-thons, silent auctions, a golf tournament, family dinner nights, and family movie nights.
Meetings:
PTC Meetings are usually held the 2nd Tuesday of every month at 6:30 p.m. in the school staff room. Childcare is provided and all parents are welcome!
Remember, donations made directly to the PTC will help minimize our fundraising needs, and are tax deductible.
School Site Council
The Vencil Brown Site Council is a committee comprised of parents and staff who make important decisions for the school. Unlike a PTC, Site Council votes to allocate funds for the educational programs that the school provides. School Site Council (SSC) meets once a month on Mondays from October to May. Parents serve on the council for a 2 year term after being elected by the school community. If you are interested in serving on this important committee, please contact Mrs. Kissick.
English Language Advisory Committee
The Vencil Brown English Language Advisory Committee (ELAC) is a group of one to two parents and two staff members per ELAC regulations according to Brown School’s English Learner (EL) population.
- ELAC members:
- Advise the principal and school staff on the school’s program for English Learners (ELs).
- Advise the School Site Council (SSC) on development of the Single School Plan for Student Achievement (Site Plan).
- Review the R-30 Language Census each spring.
- Receive information and recommended actions to support regular school attendance.
- Assist with the development of the School Needs Assessment.
The ELAC meetings will be held after school as needed to fulfill the ELAC requirements as described above.
The following website for the International Children’s Library is a great resource for students to read books in English or in their native language. Check it out!
