A few months back, we had no idea the impact COVID-19 would have on our day-to-day lives.  We didn’t know the extent of the burdens that our families would face, and we could not have predicted the toll it would take on our staff, as they transitioned their classrooms and workspaces in a matter of days. Our entire school community of teachers, parents, staff, and of course, students, should be commended for their flexibility and understanding that much of what is happening is out of our immediate control.

Today, we have some families grappling with their decision to either send their children back to school or continue with distance learning in August. I believe every family has to do what is best for them and their situations, but I wanted to let you know what I believe to be true.

There is no other system that exists in California like public education. It’s the only system designed to serve and elevate every child. Here at RCSD, we welcome every single family with open arms and a genuine desire to bring our very best to our students each day. As we look toward the 2020-2021 school year, we want our families and students to feel as safe as possible. Whether you choose to enroll in the Champions Academy online learning program, the hybrid learning model, or the more traditional five days per week of school, RCSD is committed to bringing the very best educational experiences to your child. That is our promise.

Our public school system has 15 years from the time students are in preschool to the day they graduate high school. Our goal is to ensure they return to you day after day a little smarter, a little stronger, and a little more equipped to navigate their future in college, career, and life. Despite the challenges we face, together, we can make your child’s educational experience an exceptional one.

Respectfully,

Derk Garcia
