It’s one thing to talk the talk, but it’s a whole ‘nother ball game to walk the walk. So, when Roseville City School District says that we pride ourselves on our commitment to excellence in education, we work to put those words into action. Our ultimate goal is to maximize learning for each and every one of our students.  Additionally, we strive for all of our children to be proficient in Common Core State Standards and to progress towards college and career readiness. One major way we do this is by analyzing our state testing scores and implementing action items and a strategic plan to help our students improve in the areas and programs where we see a need.

Between March 25 – May 10, 2019, RCSD will administer the California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP) for all of the students in third through eighth grades. Each school site will provide specific testing dates within this window to prepare families and their students.

All students will be tested in math and English Language Arts while fifth and eighth grade students will also be tested in science. These tests will consist of a series of questions that adapt to the student’s responses. Along with other measures of learning and in consultation with their teachers, these tests are one of the many high-quality yardsticks we use to assess where our students are in their learning, while also helping our schools know where to improve their programs. After the results are analyzed by the state, parents will have access to their student’s results through RCSD’s online parent portal, PowerSchool. This will allow a year-to-year progress comparison.

How can students arrive at school on testing days prepared to do their best? Below are our tips that can help make assessment days feel like a breeze!

Nothing can replace the brain-boosting power of a solid night’s sleep and a healthy, balanced breakfast. This is how #RCSDChampions are made!

Students can practice some of the sample questions with practice tests at caaspp.org/practice-and-training/index.html. This helps reduce testing anxiety and improve understanding of testing instructions.

Students can bring snacks to avoid a mid-day hunger slump. We recommend string cheese, apples, raisins, and carrots.

Remind students that the goal is for them to do their best. As long as they give it their all, remind them that you and RCSD are proud of them!
