Their commitment and passion have left an indelible mark on RCSD, and they will be deeply missed. We wish them all the best in their well-deserved retirement and hope they enjoy this new chapter in their lives. Help us wish them a happy retirement!

Looking Ahead to the Next School Year

As we bid farewell to this school year, we are also eagerly preparing for the next. The first day of school next year is August 8, 2024. This marks the beginning of another exciting chapter, filled with new faces—both students and staff—ready to embark on their educational journeys.

Our dedicated team of educators and support staff will be working tirelessly over the summer to ensure everything is in place for a smooth and successful start. From updating schedules and preparing classrooms, to enhancing our facilities and planning engaging activities, we are committed to providing an enriching, safe, and welcoming environment for all.

The Importance of Summer Break

Summer break is a valuable time for everyone in our school community. It is an opportunity to rest, relax, and recharge. We encourage our students and staff to take this time to enjoy family, explore new interests, and simply unwind. It’s essential to return to school rejuvenated and ready to engage fully in the learning process.

Please remember to review the upcoming school year’s calendar, which includes important dates and events. Ensuring that vacations and breaks align with this schedule will help us maximize instructional time and allow everyone to be present and focused during school days.

Summer Meal Program

For many of our students, school is where they receive a majority of their nutrition. We don’t want any student going hungry over break, so free breakfast and lunch will be offered from June 6- August 2, 2024 at Cirby, Woodbridge, Antelope Crossing and Barrett Ranch. We’ve teamed up with Dry Creek Joint Elementary School District and USDA to offer meals to anyone 18 years and under, no registration required. See the flier, our Facebook page or call 916-771-1675 for more details and time.

Gratitude and Best Wishes

I extend my heartfelt gratitude to all our staff, students, and families for their hard work and dedication throughout the year. Your contributions have made this school year truly special.

As we transition into summer, I wish everyone a safe, restful, and enjoyable break. I look forward to welcoming you back on Thursday, August 8, refreshed and ready for another year of learning and growth.

October 2020

Fall is upon us and I can’t help but wonder what 2020 has yet to unleash. So many of our experiences have been unpredictable, out of our control, and challenging. While we are working on plans to reopen, we’ve learned that flexibility and adaptability are the names of the game. And the biggest tool in the Roseville City School District toolbox? The input and support from our families, staff, and community. This has helped us ensure we have a forum so all voices can be heard.

Remembering the Golden Rule in 2020

The Golden Rule is big in my house – treat others the way you would like to be treated. We do our best to be friendly, caring, and to offer a kind word of support to our friends and each other. That is the kind of spirit I am seeing more often amid our current challenges. Human kindness will always prevail, and it gives me hope for the future. In this spirit, RCSD is committed to supporting our students, families, staff, and community as we continue maneuvering through the new frontier of distance learning and physical distancing.

August 2020

The beginning of each school year is typically filled with excitement and butterflies, maybe even a little bit of nerves, but I acknowledge that this school year will come with more mixed emotions than ever before. Families have had to make tough choices in deciding how their child will return to learning along with balancing work schedules, health and safety guidelines, and much uncertainty. While there are still so many questions and unknowns, the one thing we do know is that we are in this together.

July 2020

A few months back, we had no idea the impact COVID-19 would have on our day-to-day lives.  We didn’t know the extent of the burdens that our families would face, and we could not have predicted the toll it would take on our staff, as they transitioned their classrooms and workspaces in a matter of days. Our entire school community of teachers, parents, staff, and of course, students, should be commended for their flexibility and understanding that much of what is happening is out of our immediate control.

As I write this article with two weeks left in the school year, we are living in a time that will look much different from when you’re reading it. What will school look like next year, based on future guidelines from the State of California? Are we moving closer to transitioning into Phase 3? What does our District budget look like in the year ahead? Have our children gone stir crazy-(er)? Our District doesn’t pretend to have all the answers, but here’s what we do know:

May 2020 Teacher Appreciation Month

One of the more uplifting messages I’ve been hearing lately is about silver linings. For many, if not most of us, the past couple of months have been the strangest experiences of our lives. At the District, we’re implementing systems and routines, and one thing is for certain – our staff has the mindset that shows we are ready to meet this “new abnormal” straight on!

April, 2020

To our community, families, students, and staff, as I write this article in the middle of March, our schools are closed through April 13, 2020, in an effort to stop the spread of COVID-19. We are all living with uncertainty, and because of that, I want to thank you for your patience, understanding, and support. We will continue to convey important information on our website, so make sure to bookmark rcsdk8.org for the most up-to-date information.

Like a well-oiled machine, it takes many moving parts to make a school district effective and successful. A vital component of the Roseville City School District machine are our programs and distinctions. These factors elevate the education and curriculum we offer at our 19 RCSD schools by providing the tools that serve the whole child.

It’s no secret that the month of February is associated with L-O-V-E.  Below are five things I love about our community of schools:

Our education foundation – I might not love running, but I do love the Roseville City School District Foundation’s annual Run4Roseville Schools fundraiser. A New Year and a New Decade is on the Way!

And just like that, we find ourselves at the close of the decade. With 2020 on the horizon, you’d think I’d become nostalgic over the last ten years. You’re not wrong – in fact, I’ve become nostalgic over the last 150 years as we celebrate the District’s sesquicentennial all year long. However, the future looks so bright that I can’t help but keep looking forward to the goals, milestones, and growth at our fingertips.

Growing our Minds…But How?

Education is what I am immersed in every day. Each day, I work with educators who are determined to help students reach their potential. We read the data, analyze results and grow from what we learn. What if I told you there is a mindset we can each adopt that helps every single one of us, as parents, community members, and #RCSDChampions?

Back to School!

August is when we all head back to school and begin reminiscing about what did over the several weeks of summer break. I’d like to share what our District did over the summer!

Perhaps most noteworthy, we began summer by breaking ground on our 20th school, Riego Creek, located near Crawford Parkway and Fiddyment Road. We were joined by our board of education trustees, District staff, city council members and our construction team, all of whom took part in shoveling the first mounds of dirt!

Summer fever has hit our house and between movie nights, blasting music and video game tournaments, it can be challenging to really connect (and disconnect!) with my boys. I hear parents lament about this frequently: How do you get your kids to unplug from their devices and focus on the human interaction that helps develop their social skills, emotional intelligence, and kindness? Well, I have a few tricks my up sleeve!

Time to Wrap it Up!

The end of each school year traditionally is a time to reflect over the many goals and milestones we accomplished this year. We usually scratch our heads and think—”Where did the year go!?” While we take a look back, we are also looking forward to new opportunities and ways to grow that will allow us to prepare our students to succeed. I’d like to share with you why I believe why this school year shaped up to be one of the most productive and memorable for me as your superintendent.
